ENT3003 has challenged me critically and creatively to solve problems and capitalize on opportunities. Once I landed on an idea, the process of conducting interviews forced me to use conversational skills to refine and improve my product. While these may seem uncomfortable and excessive in the beginning, it is important to hear multiple opinions in order to anticipate societies reception of the product. As long as you remain engaged and determined, keeping up with the assignments is doable.
While the first set of interviews were short, I still found it difficult to meet the allotted time. I was unfamiliar with the process and unsure what questions to ask. When the recommended length grew to 10+ minutes I did not think it would be possible to sustain such an interview. I also stepped out of my comfort zone for the Elevator Pitch which was the first time I actually put myself and my voice on display for any viewers of my blog. I have done my best to complete these assignments, no matter how foreign or challenging they may seem.
I would recommend future students get into the habit of completing all assignments and starting them early. While it may seem like you can skip assignments because they're only one points, they begin to add up quickly. I also recommend creating a product you truly believe in, surrounding an opportunity you are passionate about. This will make it much easier to talk about when it comes to interviews or pitches.
Zach,
ReplyDeleteGreat post! We've had a very similar experience in this course, especially with the interviews. They seemed so impossible at first, I even skipped them once! However, this class forces you to step out of your comfort zone and try something new. Sometimes public speaking or strangers can seem intimidating, but when you do it once it really changes your perspective. Your recommendations are definitely correct. Starting early is a great thing in this class, and sometimes even encourages you to just finish work early so you have free time. Good luck with the rest of the class!
Hey Zach,
ReplyDeleteI was definitely able to relate to doing recorded interviews. As you can see from my page, the first interview assignment I didn’t even do, and the second one was below the desired target time. Fortunately, I was able to get into the groove of recording interviews by doing them ahead of time, as well as making sure that I had enough questions that was within the target time. Keep it up, because this semester is almost over!
Zach I really liked what you said about about hearing a different opinions from other people. I too feel it is extremely important to get perspective when it comes to things like this. We can't always see all the little details when reviewing our own work. When it comes to recording videos I feel like this was something everyone probably struggled with but from the videos I see you have posted it seems like you are getting the hang of it. Keep doing what your doing.
ReplyDeleteI like how you mentioned creating something you are passionate about. I mentioned that at the beginning of the semester, that if you create something you like, you are hardly working and instead, you are creating. Getting off to a good start and keeping a schedule are also keys to success.
