Idea Napkin No. 2

1) My name is Zach Schaeffer and I am currently on track to major in finance with a minor in sustainability studies.  I am extremely passionate about environmental conservation and believe something must be done to curb our societies dependence on fuel and resources. Creating a car that can power itself entirely on solar and wind power would not only curb carbon emissions immensely, but would also save consumers tons of money on gasoline.

2) My product offers customers an escape from their dependence on oil and gas companies. A car that runs on solar and wind energy would allow consumers to reduce their carbon footprint while drastically reducing the financial burden of driving and commuting.

3) This product would meet a significant need for drivers of all ages and backgrounds.  The long term savings would allow me to charge a high initial price making the product more of a luxury good, however, I believe people would see the long term benefits and maintain a significant demand. This would likely make my car more popular among adults and parents.

4) Often times people dismiss the issue of global warming in the belief that their effort couldn't make a difference in the giant scale of the planet. However, my car will provide the financial incentive of gas savings as well, making it more likely people will buy the car out of self interest. In combination with a growing awareness of conservationism, enough people will make the switch to a renewable powered automobile.

5) With a background in sustainability studies I will have a extensive understanding of sustainable practices a ways to preserve money and resources for years to come. In combination with my natural creativity and financial competency I will be able to innovate and develop my product to meet the demand of as many people as possible.  I am confident that I have the skills and passion to pitch this product to consumers and allow them to see the benefits.

In the end I believe I  have developed a practical and sustainable product that would draw the attention of many consumers.  These goals are directly in line with my passions and area of study.  Because I genuinely care about and believe in my product all of these elements should flow seamlessly

Feedback memo:
Since my last idea napkin I have tried to further differentiate my product from cars like Prius or Tesla which still require external energy inputs, usually produced my oil and coal. I have also made an effort to emphasize my passion and interest in this particular field of study. This time I made an effort to outline not only the environmental benefits, which some may not care about as much as I do, but also highlight the financial benefits of buying my product.  Lastly, I tried to discuss some of my personal traits that would allow me and me company to become successful.

  1. Zach,

I think it's great that your interests and business idea coincide. That is the problem I have, my future aspirations and my business idea have nothing in common so I don't think it'll work out for me. But by you having a sustainability studies minor, you have the chance of really improving your idea and knowing how to make it successful. Knowing your strengths and weaknesses is a strength in itself, and I think you have got that part down. I also appreciate you trying to differentiate your product from cars like a Prius or Telsa since that was the last problem I remember you having in your last assignments. Awesome job!

  2. I think that you did a great job incorporating your past feedback into this assignment. It seems like you truly care a lot and there you have analyzed the feedback and really used it to better the product that you are creating. It is a great idea to make sure that your product reaches out to users that do not necessarily care about the environment. That will help you differentiate from your competitors and truly beat them out in the end.

  3. Your idea is definitely unique because I don't know of any cars that are self sustaining currently on the market. The biggest barrier to implementing cleaner, more sustainable technology is cost. Capitalism is a wonderful thing, but it makes it more difficult for expensive products to win over consumers. There must be other variables to your product to allow it to compete, self sufficiency is a good start.

  4. Thank you for your post Zach, I really enjoyed reading your post and it is so great to see how much your idea has grown. I also find really great how passionate you feel about helping our world and environment. I am a strong believer as well that we need to change our dependency on oil companies and starting to use things that are more environmentally friendly
